During his lifetime Thoreau published two books, A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers and Walden, a number of essays and poems, and a few translations. Selections from his Journal were published first in four seasonal volumes prepared by H. G. O. Blake: Early Spring in Massachusetts (1881), Summer (1884), Winter (1888), and Autumn (1892).Henry David Thoreau was born in the year 1817 in Concord Massachusetts where he grew up. He graduated from Harvard University in 1837. Between 1835 and 1836, he was a teacher in Canton a school in Massachusetts. Thoreau’s subsequent narrative of the battle is very detailed and peppered with historical allusions. These allusions make the reader become “fired up” over the subject of war and patriotism. About seventy-five percent of this essay was about patriotism.
Walden, by Henry David Thoreau, is a text written in the first person perspective which details the experiences of the author during his two year experiment in living at Walden Pond; and the philosophical ideas that came to him during his stay there, regarding living simply and deliberately, knowing yourself, and searching for truth.
